To coincide with the 58th edition of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Marazzi has opens its new display location on Via Borgogna 2, expanded and completely refurbished to a design by architects Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, and also previews its the new collections of slabs in ultra-large sizes.

In their project for the Marazzi showroom, occupying a space of almost 400 square metres in the heart of Milan’s Durini design district, the architects have radically reshaped its interior layout to house the new ultra-large size stoneware slabs and Marazzi’s infinite collection of surfaces.

“There’s a kind of magic in Marazzi’s product design and development,” Patricia Veil explains. “Technology and creativity transform a generic and inert raw material into surfaces that evoke ancient workmanship, precious marbles, inlays, mosaic art and three-dimensional structures. To evoke this alchemy, the showroom project becomes a collector’s library, a Wunderkammer of colours and materials,a rug souk and a maze of rooms that form a constant visual sequence, yet are each different and surprising.”

The Marazzi collections are displayed in a succession of themed rooms which emphasise their exquisite beauty: from the large slabs hung like rich Persian carpets to the museum-like shelves which exhibit smaller size tiles that exemplify an endless collection of finishes, structures, surfaces and colours, each presented as a unique, unrepeatable object of great value.

“This display approach is completely new and original for the ceramics world,” comments Marazzi CEO Mauro Vandini, “and we believe it will offer a clearer understanding of the way our design and development work and ceramic materials are continually evolving.”

“No-one could deny that Milan is one of the world’s design and architecture capitals,” Mr Vandini adds, “and our intention is to ensure that the Marazzi showroom on via Borgogna continues to provide professionals and customers with a location that welcomes yet also surprises and impresses them, where they can explore the very latest applications of design and technology development in ceramic coverings.”

At the entrance to the showroom, a preview of the Grand Wood Tarsia collectiondesign Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, which deploys the amazing decorative potential of wood and its structure and references the ancient art of inlay on the improbable, gigantic scale of the stoneware slab, creating a form of extremely realistic optical illusion.

Next to Tarsia, the new Marazzi Grande Marble Look Terrazzo collection of slabs, inspired by classical Venetian Seminato, and a homage to Triennale, the four curve tile designed by Gio Ponti and Alberto Rosselli for Marazzi in 1960, created in SistemStechnical stoneware.
